Tail Spins
Easily one of my favorite records of 1996/1997. While some people are put off by the high pitch of Mike Ski's singing (which is not the heavy metal screeching of yesteryear), I think that it brings a new aspect to the music. The musicianship on this disc demonstrates a great variety of influences that refuses to be contained under one label. Cool introspective lyrics won't alienate those outside of the sXe scene (hell, there's even a straight up love song!). Adding to the powerful effect of this band is their amazing live performances which have made them one of the best bands that I have seen in years and years. Give these guys a listen, but make sure to keep an open mind. © 1997 Tail Spins

United Front
I bet that Brother's Kepper are sick to death of being compared to Snapcase. Well, with this, their first full length, they have matured. This is awesome! Driving new school hardcore with lots of harmonics and heavy stomping parts, but what I love the most is Mike's unique vocals. The lyrics are very emotional and introspective. Check out 'Drift' with its striking melodies and 'Eternal' with non stop drilling rhythms and singing harmonics. Brother's Keeper rock! © 1997 United Front

Rational Inquirer
Wow, Trustkill is carving themselves a niche in the hardcore arena. This is Brother's Keeper's colossal full length debut. BK are a little more rockin' than some of their hardcore counterparts, but unquestionably this is more powerful and by a landslide more original. Vocalist, Michael Lastowski, has such a memorable growly voice that'll have you singing along. © 1997 Rational Inquirer

Meat And 3 Veg
This is totally amazing, beautiful groove hardcore that rocks like no other. Heavy and slow groove riffs with nice harmonics. From the moment I put this on it didn't leave my CD player for 2 weeks!!! The first song hits with this heavy wall of pure emotion with the legendary hardcore tattooist Mike Ski on vocals and lyrics like "sounds of silence make me deaf." This release will have you grooving away in your bedroom forever. This release leaves their previous releases for dead, much more emotional than and tighter than "Ladder," plus with a nice layout featuring Mike Ski's artwork and heaps of live photos. Definitely one of the most unique bands around today. While I tend to like the more political bands around, this record definitely has a place in my record collection and in my heart. 100% pure emotion, not to be missed out on. © 1997 Meat And 3 Veg

In Effect
Metallic straight edge hardcore with some serious groove. First up great slabs of chugging guitar slap you around the head. Then Michael's screamed vocal attack rages right in your face (check out Brit-core kings Bomb Disneyland as a reference). This style put me off a little at first but after a few listens I'm hooked. The twin vocal approach used on "The Gift" makes this my favorite track. Perhaps a better approach fro their next work? I think it may widen their appeal. This is totally new school in the vein of Crown of Thornz, Turmoil, and Stillsuit. The band obviously draws inspiration for their lyrics by looking inwards- most seem to center around a relationship/personal emotional axis. Great artwork rounds off an attractive package. I bet they kill live. © 1997 In Effect

S.854
As per their fragrantly colorful cover art, I was expecting another H2O masterpiece, not so. This is rather skillful, atypical hardcore out of Erie, PA. Tight, precise, almost Helmet goes Earth Crisis hardcore...they've toured with the best and will undoubtedly require hooded sweatshirt merchandise. © 1996 S.854

This is an excellent release by Erie PA's hardcore kings. Musically it is very similar to their first CD. Heavy, straight at you hardcore that still reminds me a bit of Snapcase. Vocals are screamed and the lyrics appear to be mainly about personal experiences and feelings. I especially like the drum work on these songs and some of the hard driving guitar parts. Production is very good and the CD booklet layout and appearance are excellent. Time has helped this band progress and get even better than they were before. A fine piece of work. Pick this one up because when they come to your town, you are going to wish you knew the songs. © 1996 Avatar

Exclaim!
Fans of metallic straight edge bands such as Integrity and Earth Crisis please take note. Erie, PA's kings of the pit Brother's Keeper have returned with another solid release for all to sway and "pull the chain" to. Like similar minded acts such as Buffalo's Despair, and Vancouver's Strain, Brother's Keeper represents the next batch of straight edge metallic hardcore worth paying attention to. The Continuum is a collection of ten well structured new songs. The double lead guitars of Scott Emhoff and Roger Hurlbert work well of off eachother, intertwining like a constrictor does around unsuspecting prey, and creating real barnstormers in songs like "Drift" and "Spectator." The most surprising aspect of the music however has to be the vocals of Mike Ski. Coming across like a mixture of Earth Crisis' Karl and the singer from '70s dinosaur act Nazareth, Mike is the most angry person I have ever heard sing "I've got sunshine on my mind, my sun shines bright even when there's clouds in the sky." What other reason do you need to check this out? © 1996 Exclaim!

Crazy, awesome hardcore. These guys rock and leave a path of destruction behind them. If you like fast, intense hardcore ala Earth Crisis and One King Down, get this. © 1996 Muddle

Very
Erie, PA's favorite sons kick out a full length jam, which, while retaining their groove heavy rockin' style, shows more aggression and is harder hitting especially in the vocal department. They're the nicest kids too. © 1996 Very

Spank
The eradicated sound of Erie, Pennsylvania's Brother's Keeper bound straight for you on their first full lengther titled The Continuum. After only a couple of seven inches for We Bite America, these five launch their assaulting guitars and stepped up rhythms to singer Michael Lastowski's vocal brawn. Compounding their intensity through Lastowski's straining words on "Etheral" or "Spectator," Brother's Keeper grab you with their hardcore assets and are ready to take that extra mile. © 1996 Spank

Black Heart
New full length from Erie's No. 1 sons. These guys have a sound all of their own. I often find myself tearing my room apart to this one. Great song writing and so much hardcore energy. I fucking love it, check it out. © 1996 Black Heart

Catch 22
Brother's Keeper is no doubt one of my favorite bands. This is their first full length album. 10 really tight new school songs that continue to redefine hardcore. Next to the deep and strengthening lyrics my favorite thing about this band is all the crowd participation at their live shows. Excellent! © 1996 Catch 22

Words Of War
This CD is hard to describe because Brother's Keeper chooses to follow no leads but their own. Songs like "Gift" and "The Continuum" display their progression into their own style of danceable beats, drawn out vocals, and crunchy guitar that display complex melodies and rhythms without losing its conviction or originality. This CD is definitely original but sincere to hardcore. © 1996 Words Of War

Yes! Their first full length and it's super! The recording and layout are spectacular. The music is still in your fucking face. The vocals have changed a little bit but who cares? I love BK! Lyrics are personal but so is Mike Ski. Another beauty. Get ready to jump and swing side to side. © 1996 Expose

Rock Hard
Mosh, mosh, mosh. Brother's Keeper plough regardless of the old school renaissance through a midtempo-groove-noise-psycho-thunderstorm. You could take off your hat to them even if you're not into the new school thing. Of course "The Continuum" could be of the more technical hardcore, but even so, they belong at the top of that genre. © 1996 Rock Hard
